Do we Really need
Travel Insurance?

Answer - Yes.
Whilst it is not a legality to do so it is very much advised. Now i know the last thing you want to be thinking about after planning an exciting holiday is thinking about what 'could' happen but sometimes the worst 'does' happen and its best to be prepared.
Travel Insurance could protect you from hefty bills or medical costs in the event of an incident or accident, amongst other things like loss of luggage or theft. Many also cover you in case of missed flights or delays plus cancelation of your holiday due to unforeseen circumstances.

There are many different policies to choose from to cover you depending on your needs. You will also need to consider factors like -

-
the type of trip you’re taking
-
where you’re going
-
how long your trip is
-
your age
-
your medical condition
-
what kind of activities you intend doing on your trip
-
how often you’ll be travelling over a 12-month period
-
how many are going on the trip

If you’re pregnant or have a pre-existing medical condition, ensure you check whether your condition is covered. You may need to add extra cover or opt for a special insurance policy that will cater to your specific needs.

Family Travel Insurance
Family Travel Insurance typically covers one or two adults who live at the same address, plus at least one child (up to a maximum of eight children) aged 18 or under who permanently lives with you. It is easier to take out one policy which will cover you all rather than take out individual policies for each person.
If you are going on more than one holiday during the year then you can take out an annual cover which will protect you for all trips during the year or you can opt for a single trip policy to cover one holiday.
Always read the policy details carefully. Some policies may not cover family members who are travelling separately or children accompanied by a non-family member. And check what the policy says about children who don’t permanently live with you, such as stepchildren.

Must-have Features
Don’t make the mistake of thinking your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is enough if you’re travelling to Europe. An EHIC will only provide you with the same care offered to locals.

-
If you or one of your family members fall ill and need emergency medical treatment or have to stay in hospital you should make sure that your policy covers this.
-
Cancellation or Curtailment is handy to have on the policy in case you have to cancel or cut your holiday short.
-
If you miss your departure flight or your flight is delayed there are policies out there which will cover you in cases which are out of your control.
-
Stolen, lost or damaged luggage - A no brainer especially when travelling with children.
-
Personal liability – this may cover the cost of any damage or injury you unwittingly cause while you’re away.

It is important when getting a quote for travel insurance to be honest and that the information you provide is correct to your knowledge. If you dont you could make your policy void and your insurance provider will refuse to pay out.
